15-yr-old student remanded for allegedly stabbing classmate to death in Ondo

A 15-year-old female student of Anglican Grammar School, Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State, has been remanded at the Ondo State Juvenile Home in Akure, pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Chief Magistrate Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi gave the order, on Wednesday, following the teenager’s alleged involvement in the stabbing to death of her 17-year-old classmate, Habib Salau.

The defendant, an SS3 student, faces a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.

According to Police Prosecutor Josephine Awana, the teenager and another individual at large conspired to commit murder on October 3, around 3:30 p.m. at Imo, Arigidi Akoko.

Awana stated in court that the defendant accused Salau of accosting her on the way home after a misunderstanding, leading to a fight. The defendant allegedly claimed someone gave her a knife and instructed her to stab Salau in the neck.

Commissioner of Police Abayomi Oladipo confirmed that the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for diligent investigation.

The offences contravene Sections 124 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006. The prosecutor requested the court to remand the offender pending the DPP’s advice.
