Top 8 and top 1 offline tournament placings reveal top performing characters in Street Fighter 6 Season 2

The action has raged on for Street Fighter 6 here in its second year, and though there’s still plenty of competition to go before we get to Capcom Cup, we thought it would be interesting to get a bit of a snapshot in terms of character performance at offline major events.

We’ve rounded up the results from 25 offline majors, all of which have been covered here on EventHubs, and listed character performance across two major categories: top eight and first place finishes.

This data is telling, but it is limited in its ability to represent the entire picture. First of all, we only took into account main characters used, so secondaries are not represented. For instance, FLY|Punk used Akuma as a secondary at CEO 2024, including in grand finals, but his primary character throughout was Cammy and so his first place finish is credited only to her.

There have also been more events beyond the ones we use for our sample here. We’ve chosen the 25 since Capcom Cup X (which happened at the end of February 2024) that featured the largest and most internationally-representative player pools.

Street Fighter 6 underwent a large balance patch immediately after Capcom Cup with Ed’s release, but saw another major balance update in May with Akuma’s release.

Yet another DLC character, M. Bison, was released a month later, so not all characters have been around for all events, and most have undergone mid-season balance changes.

Finally, online events are not represented here. The Capcom Pro Tour World Warrior tournaments could also be calculated and added to the results, though some competitive players would argue that online and offline experiences are not exactly congruent thanks to the presence and potential of lag.

With all of that said, Ken has seen the most top eight appearances by a fairly wide margin. Ed, however, has the most first place finishes. The game’s newest character, M. Bison, has a strong resume despite starting three months after everyone else sans Akuma, and Rashid is amongst the top performers, as many would expect.

Luke has fairly impressive results, but we will note that the bulk of his notable placements happened in the earlier parts of the year. The same is true for JP, who accumulated nine top 8 finishes relatively early on, but his results have also slowed in more recent months.

Check out the data below and let us know what you make of it in the comments.
