Mortal Kombat 1 just celebrated its first anniversary this month, and now the game is about to receive the largest update it may ever see.
NetherRealm Studios has revealed the details about when to expect MK1’s server maintenance to begin for the massive Khaos Reigns expansion and patch.
As explained in their latest post online, MK1’s servers will temporarily being going offline to prepare the game for the new update tomorrow morning, Tuesday, September 24.
The maintenance period is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. CT, and while they don’t state how long it may last, players will likely need to wait a few hours or so, especially with them noting to “allow for longer update times” for a full install.
During this time, all online functionality will remain unavailable including online matchmaking, lobbies, in-game rewards, the in-game store and more.
Obviously, the Khaos Reigns expansion itself is going to be the major focus of the patch, bringing a slew of new premium content to MK1.
There’s a new cinematic Story Mode experience as well as Kombat Pack 2 launching with Noob Saibot, Cyrax and Sektor as new playable characters.
Scream’s Ghostface, the Terminator’s T-1000 and Conan the Barbarian are slated to release at a later time though there’s currently no way to buy just the Kombat Pack 2 content by itself similar to Mortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath expansion.
To ensure the realms are ready for Havik’s arrival, #MK1 will be undergoing maintenance on September 24 starting at 6am PT/8am CT. As this will be a full install, please allow for longer update times. Stay tuned for further info.

Those who pre-order receive four additional premium skins too with Wedding Scorpion, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Sub-Zero, Empress Mileena and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Noob.
On top of all that, there will also be slew of content and changes being made to the base game itself that’ll be available for all MK1 owners whether they pick up the expansion or not.
There has of course been a lot of talk about Animalities returning for the first timeDLC guests getting the special finishers too.
NRS has also detailed new moves coming to characters and Kameos along with a larger balance overhaul for the game’s cast as they move on to a new season.
New modes are supposed to be on the way for all as well, which may have previously leaked online.
Assuming they continue like before, there should also be a new Invasions season to kick off Khaos for all.
And there’s probably some more stuff NRS is keeping hidden until the update goes live too.
Stay tuned to EventHubs for the full Khaos Reigns patch notes when they become available, a review for the expansion and more updates on the future of Mortal Kombat.
