2024 Paralympics: Nworgu Wins Silver For Nigeria In Powerlifting

Nigeria’s Esther Nworgu won a silver medal in the women’s 41kg para powerlifting event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics on Wednesday.

Nworgu lifted 118kg to settle for silver and win Nigeria’s second medal at the Games.

She produced a stunning performance to set two new records by lifting an impressive 112kg and 118kg respectively.

China’s Zhe Cui pipped her to the Gold medal with a new Paralympic Record of 119kg.

Nworgu recorded 106kg in her first lift to finish second behind Cui, who polled 108kg.

In her second lift, Nworgu lifted 112kg, while Cui extended her lead with a 113kg lift.

In the final round, she recorded her best lift of 118kg to grab the silver medal, Brazil’s Lara de Lima lifted 109kg to take the bronze.

Nworgu became the second Nigerian athlete to win a medal at the Paralympics after Eniola Bolaji defeated her Ukrainian opponent, Oksana Kozyna to win a bronze medal in Badminton.
