At least three students of Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State have been killed after an attack by gunmen at the school early Friday.
The school is reported to belong to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria(IMN), a Shiia sect in Nigeria.
The gunmen, who are suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, invaded Hausari quarters in Geidam LGA, where the school was located around 3:44 am, on Friday.
The assailants who rode into the school premises on motorbikes, wielding AK-47 rifles, attacked the school when the students were asleep, brought them outside and shot them dead.
The state command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, who spoke to journalists confirmed the report, adding that one of the students who got injured had been taken to an undisclosed hospital where he’s receiving treatment.
Abdulkarim added that a teacher who managed to escape told the police that the attack came as a surprise as there was no confrontation with any member of any armed groups.
He further stated that the police had commenced an investigation to unravel those behind the attack.
