Wukong and it looks amazing in motion

The Dragon Ball franchise’s Goku is no stranger to fighting games. He has appeared in countless arena fighters over the years, and most recently we saw about 150 different versions of himself in the top notch competitive fighting title, Dragon Ball FighterZ.

It’s no secret that Dragon Ball’s first protagonist was created with inspiration pulled from Journey to the West, a 16th century Chinese novel that follows the adventures of the Monkey King, and just last week an action RPG game called Black Myth: Wukong that is based on the same story was released. Black Myth: Wukong has become extremely popular here in its inaugural launch week, and one crafty fan has already gone in and created a mod that transforms the game’s main character into none other than Dragon Ball Z’s Goku.

Now, Black Myth: Wukong sees the player take control of an anthropomorphic monkey character who is known as the Destined One. This protagonist is based on Sun Wukong from the classic Chinese novel, and in the game we see key elements from the book brought into the modern title that flesh out the main character’s design traits and attacks.

In Black Myth: Wukong, your main weapon is a powerful staff which can be used to unleash deadly combos. The Destined One also has a variety of other abilities that can be used in all manner of different ways, including flying around whilst riding on a cloud.

A magical staff, riding a cloud, and a monkey’s tail… Sound familiar? Yes, these were all traits that early versions of Dragon Ball’s Goku had too, which makes the parallels between Goku and the Destined One pretty obvious.

This slick Goku mod comes from the mind of NorskPL, and just like you’d imagine it plops ol’ Son Goku right into the game. While his 3D model looks a bit rough during close ups (which is understandable as this is a very early mod, after all), in action it looks really cool.

A brief gameplay clip of the mod was posted on Twitter and shows Goku running around, dodging, attacking an enemy with his staff, and even flying on a cloud. At some point, I imagine modders will even swap out the cloud in-game for Goku’s trusty Nimbus.

We also don’t hear any Goku voice lines just yet, but again, with time I’m sure modders will really sharpen this one up and flesh it out even further.
