In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the city, a man has been accused of causing a fatal chain-reaction bus crash in Seattle. What makes this tragedy even more alarming is the revelation that the accused had an astonishing 50 past warrants issued for his arrest. Adam Abelson is now facing charges that include vehicular homicide for the Nov. 4 crash.

On a fateful day in Seattle, a chain-reaction bus crash occurred, leaving several people injured and tragically claiming the life of Amanda Schneider. The impact redirected the bus toward the southeast corner where she stood. She reportedly tried to run but was struck and killed.

Casey McNerthney, King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said, “An incident involving a bus like this and particularly rare when you think of the number of bus routes and rides that happen per day, the odds of things happening to you is very slim on Metro. But, it doesn’t mean this victim’s life was any less valuable, or this case was any less serious. This is a heartbreaking tragedy.”

Prosecutors say that locally, he’s been issued around 50 warrants for his arrest in the past and accused of a number of crimes. The sheer number of warrants issued against the accused driver raises concerns about the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies and their ability to apprehend repeat offenders.

Based on file information, 14 passengers were on the bus at the time of this collision. Eleven passengers were transported to the hospital. Prosecutors said Abelson’s lengthy record includes making false statements to a public servant, hit-and-run, vehicle prowling, theft and organized retail theft.
