Daigo Umehara has been rocking Akuma in Street Fighter 6 since he was first released back in late May. The Beast is easily one of the best Akuma players around right now, and watching his match footage very often results in seeing new tech that you likely haven’t seen before.
Now that we’re just about at the three month Mark with the ferocious DLC character, those who play him are starting to unearth set ups, combos, and sequences that are either much closer to optimal or are flat out optimal for varying situations. In a recent clip from Daigo’s stream, the powerful player pulled off an amazing, optimal sequence that utilized two level 2 supers within the span of 10 in-game seconds.
Fighting game community chronicler HiFight shared the clip on Twitter this week that features the amazing demonstration from Daigo himself.
Going up against Itabashi Zangief’s Gief, Daigo knocked the grappler player down with a sweep before pushing him further into the corner with some blockstring pressure. Setting up a frame trap with crouching light punch into OD fireball resulted in an opening for Daigo, and The Beast was fully ready to convert the projectile into more damage.
Just after the Overdrive Gou Hadoken hit Itazan and put him into a juggle state, Daigo linked right into Akuma’s level 2 super — which allows Akuma to continue after it with a full combo. Daigo does just that, opting for a quick-hitter that ends with a light punch uppercut to set up the next play.
After a simple frame kill, Daigo fires off a meaty fireball which actually counter hits Itazan deep and gives Akuma enough time to convert into another full-on combo. This time, Daigo dumps all of his remaining resources for a devastating combo that not only builds another super bar during, but as a result, ends with another level 2 super to KO the Zangief player.
Everything Daigo did here starting with the jab into OD fireball was perfectly calculated and mapped out. The exceptional player knew all of the beats here, and he hit them all perfectly making for an amazing clip.
