It is a very exciting time to be a Marvel vs. Capcom fan. Against all odds, Capcom and Marvel have returned with a brand new compilation that is set to feature six classic titles from the Versus series (as well as The Punisher) and it is slated for release this year.
In anticipation of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, one of the greatest players to ever compete in the franchise and an absolute legend in Versus games, Justin Wong, has sat down to create a brand new tier list for Marvel vs. Capcom 2. As far as players go who are the authority on how strong or not characters in MvC2 are, it really doesn’t get any better than Justin Wong.
Yes, today we have a new Marvel vs. Capcom 2 tier list from Justin Wong in 2024. After a lot of fan demand, Justin has finally decided to take on the task of generating a new tier list for the game.
Despite MvC2 being nearly 25-years-old now, the iconic fighting game still has a devoted fanbase that actively play and research what all is possible within it. Justin kicks things off by saying he feels like a lot has changed since the last time he made a tier list for the title back in 2022.
Justin’s tier list is built using six different tier ranking categories. We start at the top (the best) with God Tier, then work our way down through Top Tier, Mid Tier, OK Tier, Low Tier, and finally Trash Tier.
Starting on the lowest end of things this time, we see that only three characters occupy this tier ranking — and the picks probably won’t surprise you. We see Dan, Servbot, and Roll as the worst of the bunch, and that stands to reason as they are definitely more on the joke character end of things.
Now, Justin does note that the characters are not ordered within their respective categories. So a fighter being in a higher spot within their tier rank does not necessarily mean they’re better than the characters that follow.
As far as who Justin places as the best of the best in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, naturally, we see the staple four horsemen (and goddess) of the apocalypse. Storm, Sentinel, Magneto, and Cable are still the best in Justin’s opinion, but he does add one more fighter to this rank that he feels has ascended to god status in recent years.
There’s a ton to get through here, so be sure to check out JWong’s full video breakdown below where he creates this tier list and explains each placement.
