Fabrizio Romano reveals centre-back set to sign new contract at Manchester United

You wait for one bus and then several come along all at once.

For a number of years, the quality of Manchester United’s academy to regularly produce players for the first team had been questioned.

Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay have made it through the ranks, but the names are few and far between.

When you look at the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Southampton and Brighton, many clubs have been streets ahead of United when it comes to producing home grown talent.

That could all be about to change.

Following a breakthrough season for Kobbie Mainoo last campaign, this new season seems to indicate that more youngsters are set to breakthrough to the senior side.

Two such names are set to play in the Community Shield this weekend.

Harry Amass is expected to start the game, while Toby Collyer is set to make his debut at some point in the match also.

When you have talented players coming through the ranks, it’s important to tie them down as well.

Ethan Ennis, a promising midfielder, has already commented on his new deal at the club.

And now it seems that another talent is to tie himself to the club for a longer period as well.

Fabrizio Romano has tweeted the Manchester United under-21 captain is set to sign a new three-year contract at the club.

Sonny Aljofree has an agreement to stay at the club until 2027.

The talented centre-back is in the final stages of tying up the deal.

Aljofree spent time on loan at Altrincham Town this past season, but hasn’t made a senior start for his parent club just yet.

With United experiencing a defensive crisis at the moment, it will be interesting to see if the club green light another loan move or if they’ll keep him around and give him an opportunity in the senior side.

Still only 19, Sonny Aljofree has a long time to go in his career. Here’s hoping that it will be a successful one at Old Trafford.
