Street Fighter 6 to undergo server maintenance tomorrow night, here's what it might be adding to the game

It has just been announced that Street Fighter 6 will be seeing some surprise server maintenance done tomorrow night. During the maintenance period, all online modes will be taken offline and will not be accessible until the servers are restored.

At this point in time, Capcom has not unveiled what will be added to the game after said server maintenance. However, despite that we have a few guesses as to why this server maintenance is being conducted.

As we all know by now, major fighting games usually conduct a server maintenance period when changes are going to be added to the game. The most common and exciting bout of it happens in anticipation of a new DLC character being added to the game or new content like costumes.

Since we currently don’t have any content like that that has been revealed and slated to release this week — the game’s next DLC character, Terry Bogard, won’t become available until this Fall — it’s a bit more of a mystery what all this maintenance is making way for.

What we do know is that Capcom’s recent New Challengers art contest has officially concluded with 20 submissions being chosen to be added to the game. Capcom has not revealed a release date for these fan-made New Challengers screens, however, they are set to be added to the game and will be available for everyone to pick up and use for free.

There’s a great chance that this server maintenance will pave the way for these new art pieces to be added to the game, and we very well might see them available once the game’s servers are restored.

In addition to this, we are now about to begin the month of August and Street Fighter 6’s upcoming maintenance period is scheduled to end right around the official start of the month. There’s also a good chance that Capcom is dialing in the start of a new Master Rate phase, which will mean everyone in Master rank will have their MR points reset back to 1500 for a clean slate and the previous phase’s leaderboard will be set in stone.

It’s also likely that we’ll see some bug fixes implemented.

“[Notice] #StreetFighter 6 server maintenance will take place during the time below. This maintenance is expected to last around 4 hours,” wrote the official Street Fighter Twitter account. “July 31 at 8PM PDT / August 1 at 4AM BST.”

With the maintenance period expected to last four hours, we should be seeing the game’s online features restored at midnight PT on August 1.
