Manchester United striker Joe Hugill is withdrawing from the pre-season tour ahead of loan move to League One side.
The 20-year-old had a tremendous game vs Rangers, scoring the second goal in United’s 2-0 win.
Hugill was one of two academy graduates alongside Radek Vitek who have had a number of clubs looking to take the stars on loan.
Hugill set to leave on loan
Now, Manchester Evening News have announced that the striker is already preparing for a loan spell in League One.
Hugill is set to join Wigan Athletic for the season to gain more experience of first team football.
Whilst the striker is yet to make his competitive debut for United, his performances for Burton Albion and in this pre-season will have definitely made Erik ten Hag take note of the youngster.
With his contract running until 2026, Hugill still has plenty of time to get on the pitch at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old has signed a new contract with Manchester United, extending his stay until 2026, with an option for an additional year, as part of his loan deal to Burton.
Despite being named on the bench four times by manager Erik ten Hag last season, he has yet to make his competitive debut for United.
United initially signed the young striker from Sunderland at age 16 in 2020, and he was part of the FA Youth Cup-winning squad in 2022.
The signing of Joshua Zirkzee and the development of Ethan Wheatley have led to another loan move for Hugill to gain more experience.
Meanwhile, United are exploring the possibility of adding another striker to their academy. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Mancunian giants are interested in signing Arsenal’s sensation Chido Obi-Martin.
