Mortal Kombat 1 has just been updated with a brand new patch that brings with it fresh DLC characters Takeda and Ferra, the latter being a Kameo assistant.
For those wanting to quickly learn how to play as or against these newcomers Ketchup and Mustard have had some early play time with the newcomers and have released a video detailing how they fight, what some of their strongest sequences are, and more.
As you might expect when it comes to a character with dual whips as his go-to weapons, Takeda has more range than most of his fellow roster mates. That said, he’s so much more than just a neutral character as he’s capable of launching into some hefty juggle combos once he’s landed that initial hit.
Takeda also has the ability to toss out shurikens on the ground that explode after a set amount of time, meaning he can create some gnarly set ups as incoming explosions distract opponents while Takeda goes for overhead or low mix ups.
Pairing Takeda with Cyrax, one of the strongest Kameos in all of Mortal Kombat 1, opens up a lot of possibilities. Cyrax’s net keeps foes tangled up long enough that Takeda can first place a few shurikens and then launch into combos that use said shurikens to extend for more pop ups and hits.
When it comes to Ferra, Ketchup and Mustard don’t beat around the bush at all; she’s all about her Torr stance assist. This maneuver sees her jump onto the back of the main character, and from there she can leap forward for a high command grab or have the main swing her as a weapon.
It seems launching into this stance and immediately forcing foes to guess between options will be a large portion of the Ferra strategy, though she does have other assist options players will surely want to explore.
There’s a lot more detail in the full video below, and if you want to start winning with Takeda and/or Ferra (or avoid a few early losses thanks to lack of knowledge) you’ll definitely want to watch through Ketchup and Mustard’s breakdown.
