Toby Savin must feel that he’s the most unlucky football player in the world
Not every footballer gets the chance to join Manchester United Football Club.
Savin had the unique distinction that the club has tried to sign him twice.
Alas, it has not materialised as news emerges that he’s failed another medical.
Another medical, you say?
That’s right.
It seems that United tried to sign Toby Savin in the January transfer window. But that move did not materialise once he failed a medical.
And news has now emerged that he’s failed another medical this month.
Who is Toby Savin?
You might be wondering, who in the world is Toby Savin?
The club has been linked to names such as Manuel Ugarte, Jarrad Brainthwaite and Matthijs de Ligt. But there are likely not many columns that were dedicated to Toby Savin.
That’s because he had been identified to join the club as the third choice goalkeeper.
Tom Heaton has moved into a coaching role and the club wanted to bring in a new face to deputise for Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.
According to the Daily Mail, Savin was playing for Accrington Stanley in League Two when he failed his first medical in January. Apparently, he’d been followed and scouted by the likes of United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur for the last three years.
After only making nine appearances last campaign due to injury issues, the League Two side released the ‘keeper this summer.
And United went in for him again on a free transfer, only for him to fail another medical.
Because of that, United passed on the opportunity to sign him and he instead signed for Shrewsbury Town on a new year deal. The Shrews are hoping that he will regain his fitness at the League One side and show the aptitude that got the attention of some elite English Premier League sides.
Unfortunately for Savin, it seems like a once (or in this case, twice) in a lifetime opportunity may just have passed him by. Maybe he’ll be able to make a dream move to Old Trafford at some point later in his career.
