Though the developers stopped patching the game after the version 13.0.1 update, the meta for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has continued to develop thanks to the players. As such, ESAM has decided that it was time for a brand new tier list for the game.
As expected, Steve ended up labeled as the best character in the game. However, there ended up being a few surprises on ESAM’s tier list. It would seem that ESAM is a big believer that characters like Pikachu and Samus also belong in the top tier category along with the likes of Steve, Mr. Game & Watch, R.O.B., and others.
It’s interesting to note that Steve and Pyra & Mythra are the only DLC characters labeled as being definite top tiers in this particular tier list. Despite strong results for Joker in the past, the Persona rep was only said to be among the “arguable top tiers.”
Of the 12 new challengers that were released as DLC, seven of them ended up as being either “top tier” or “arguable top tier.” Piranha Plant ended up as a low tier while Sephiroth, ironically considering the character’s canonical history, was declared to be the second worst DLC fighter in the mid tier category.
At this point, it’s pretty widely accepted that Ganondorf is the worst fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which is similar to his status in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. On ESAM’s tier list, Ganondorf has a tier category dedicated to just him as a way of emphasizing just how much the “Demon King” struggles against the rest of the roster.
Early in the game’s life, many players believed that Inkling had the potential to be the best character in the game. Funnily enough, she’s been relegated to a mid tier position on ESAM’s tier list, below most of the roster.
Thinking about it, there have been plenty of developments in the meta since the game was first released. Check it all out below:
