The Complete Cat Pokemon List in Order

The world of Pokemon is truly gigantic. With monsters inspired by real life, it’s hardly a surprise we even have cat Pokemon in the game. In its history of over nine generations of games, this world of monsters has a lot of cat Pokemon. So if you’re someone who wants to know about them all, keep reading as we show you all the cat Pokemon in the games right up till now.

All Cat Pokemon in Order

All cat Pokemon in the series have been divided across nine generations of games. Here are all the cat Pokemon listed in generational order:

Gen 1 (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
52 Meowth Normal
53 Persian Normal
58 Growlith Fire/Rock

Gen 1 games only featured two Feline Pokemon – Meowth and Persian. Interestingly enough, both Pokemon have existed in the Team Rocket team in anime. Some people might debate the inclusion of Growlith on this list. However, he is inspired by a Tiger, a cat sub-species.

Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
133 Eevee Normal
196 Espeon Psychic
197 Umbreon Dark
243 Raikou Electric

For the second generation of games, we had to include Eevee. It is a normal-type Pokemon that once again looks a lot like a feline in many ways. While some might argue about this choice, Eevee Evolutions are directly inspired by cats.

Gen 3 (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
300 Skitty Normal
301 Delcatty Normal
335 Zangoose Normal

All cat Pokemon in Gen 3 include an ambitious mix. While a Zangoose is a bipedal mix between a Mongoose and a Cat, the other two are directly inspired by cats. I love Decatty because of how cute it looks.

Gen 4 (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
403 Shinx Electric
404 Luxio Electric
405 Luxray Electric
431 Glameow Normal
432 Purugly Normal

In the Pokemon Gen 4 games, Shinx and its evolved form, Luxio and Luxray, are a direct inspiration from cats. Glameow is possibly the third Pokemon in this list that looks visually similar to a cat in real life.

Gen 5 (Black and White)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
509 Purrloin Dark
510 Liepard Dark

For the gen five Pokemon games, we only have two monsters looking similar to our feline friends in real life. Purrloin is another Pokemon that looks very similar to a cat. On the other hand, Liepard, as it says in the name, looks like a Leopard, a sub-species of cats.

Gen 6 (X and Y, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
667 Litleo Fire/Normal
668 Pyroar Fire/Normal
677 Espurr Psychic
678 Meowstic Psychic
700 Sylveon Fairy

Gen 5 locks horns with Gen 4 with a similar setup with all Cat Pokemon.

Gen 7 (Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee!)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
52 Alolan Meowth Dark
53 Alolan Persian Dark
725 Litten Fire
726 Torracat Fire
727 Incineroar Fire/Dark
791 Slogaleo Psychic/Steel
800 Duskmane Necrozma Psychic/Steel
807 Zeraora Electric

The gen seven of Pokemon games features the highest number of monsters that look like cats. Two of these Pokemon in this game include the Alolan version of an existing Pokemon. Outside of this, the seventh generation of Pokemon features one of the famous fire Pokemon in-game.

Gen 8 (Sword, Shield, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, Legends: Arceus)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
52 Galarian Meowth Steel
863 Perrseker Steel

Gen 9 (Scarlet, Violet)

Pokemon Number Pokemon Name Pokemon Type
906 Sprigatito Grass
907 Floragato Grass
908 Meowscarada Grass/Dark
1002 Chien-Pao Dark/Ice

One of the latest generations of Pokemon Games only includes four Pokemon that look distinctly similar to cats.

How Many Cat Pokemon Are There in Total?

Now that we have divided all cat Pokemon it’s time to tally them up. Throughout the nine different generations, there are a total of 36 Cat Pokemon.

However, this includes the first Red, Blue, and Green games and the latest Scarlet and Violet. If you’ve watched the old Pokemon anime, you’ll recognize the Team Rocket-speaking cat Meowth and Giovanni’s pet cat Persian.

Both of these Pokemon are very distinct and have left a lasting impression on my mind. Some other prominent Pokemon from this sub-genre include the fire Pokemon Inceneroar from Pokemon Sun and Moon. This fellow has even appeared in the famous Super Smash Bros Ultimate, making him well-known.

And these are all the cat Pokemon right now. So which cat Pokemon are going to catch first? Let us know in the comments below!
