Antony Starr finally confirms that he is NOT voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1

Omni-Man from the Invincible series recently joined Mortal Kombat 1’s roster as the first DLC character of the Kombat Pass. The release windows for the remaining Kombat Pack characters indicate that Quan Chi and Peacemaker will release sometime in winter 2023/2024, Ermac and Homelander in spring 2024, and finally Takeda Takahashi in summer 2024.

Needless to say, fans are excited about having a true showdown between Omni-Man and Homelander once the later joins Mortal Kombat 1’s roster. Considering that J.K. Simmons is voicing Omni-Man and John Cena will be voicing Peacemaker in Mortal Kombat 1, this means that Antony Starr will be voicing Homelander, right?

As highlighted by Uppercut Editions, Antony Starr over on Instagram was asked by a fan if he is voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1.

“Are you voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1?” asked vaguelyokay on Instagram. “Nope,” simply responded Antony Starr.

Of course, this actually isn’t the first time that Antony Starr was asked this question. However, rather than being asked if he’s voicing Homelander in the present tense, he was instead asked the same question in the future tense.

“Will you be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1, Antony?” asked maxium_mishima on Instagram back in the middle of October. To that, Star responded by saying “mmmmmmm.”

From these exchanges, we can draw a few different hypotheses on what’s potentially going on here. Perhaps when Starr was asked this question, he was unsure at the time if he’d be able to voice Homelander, but is now able to confirm that he won’t be able to do that.

As noted before, the previous question was technically phrased differently than how it was the second time. Before, he was asked if he will be voicing Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 in the future, whereas now he’s being asked if he’s currently voicing the character for this purpose.

More than likely, development on Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t begun yet, or is only just in its infancy. There’s a small glimmer of hope that Starr is simply saying that he currently isn’t voicing Homelander for MK1. This statement to this particular version of the question may not necessarily exclude that he could be doing it in the future.

If we were to assume that Starr was under a contract to do voice work for MK1, then he probably wouldn’t state outright that he was involved just yet. In other words, Starr could simply be lying though this would be a lie designed to surprise fans later on rather than a malicious lie.

Ultimately, it would be odd to have J.K. Simmons voicing Omni-Man, but not Antony Starr for Homelander considering that Simmons is said to have a net worth of about 20 million dollars while Starr is said to have a net worth of 2 million dollars.

Regardless of speculation, this does appear to greatly lower the chances of Antony Starr being the voice of Homelander in MK1. For now, it would be best to take Starr at his word to avoid disappointment.

We’ll just have to wait until NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. are willing to divulge more information about Homelander in MK1 to find out who will actually be voicing the character.
