The saga of Mason Greenwood’s future continues with a number of top clubs across Europe looking to the winger as a potential option this summer. However, the next season for Greenwood may start a lot closer to home.
Much speculation has surrounded the next step in Greenwood’s career with the most recent developments indicating a move to Italy would be most likely.
Lazio, Napoli and Juventus have all been swarming for the 22-year-old, with Lazio being the first to submit and initial bid for the England international, offering a fee of £30 million, unfortunately for United, falling short of their asking price of £40 million.
Whilst no bid has been received from Juve, The Old Lady are confident of signing the winger, with reports indicating that the club have agreed personal terms with the player.
However, if United can’t agree to terms for a sale of the young star within the next fortnight, Greenwood is set to return to Old Trafford and report to training as part of United’s retained list at the end of last season.
The Mirror have reported that, with United set to return to Carrington on 8th July for pre-season training, Greenwood is expected back with the club for training to get ready for the season ahead.
Despite this, the Red Devil’s are still very much set on selling the controversial star in order to raise funds for their other dealings in the transfer market.
An added bonus to any prospective Greenwood sale is that the deal would count as pure profit for the club with the Englishman being a United academy graduate, as stated by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. United are sure to cash in on this fact, with the player entering his final year of contract, making the potential of Greenwood leaving next year for free at the end of his contract a massive loss for the club.
