Manuel Ugarte has had a tremendous first season at Paris Saint Germain.
The 23-year-old arrived in the French capital last summer for £50 million from Sporting Lisbon, and has slotted straight into the first team squad.
Predominantly a member of PSG’s starting eleven, Ugarte’s already made 37 appearances across all competitions, helping the club to win the Ligue 1 title, Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions, completing the French domestic triple this year.
With strong performances for the French club, the Uruguayan has done enough to secure his place for his national team in the Copa Amerca this year playing out in the United States.
Featuring in Uruguay’s 3-1 defeat of Panama in the opening round of the tournament, El Observado, the Uruguayan publication, commented that the midfielder brought balance to the middle of the pitch and gave a ‘defensive order’ with a player rating of 6/10. Meanwhile Montevideo Futbol praised the player’s consistence for the national team and the command he has over the ball.
This consistency and balance that Ugarte brings to the pitch is the key reason United are looking to the 23-year-old to strengthen the defensive midfield at Old Trafford alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
Recently i news claimed that PSG are open to selling their new arrival, but only for fees over the value of £50 million to at least break even on the player, having paid Sporting Lisbon this in order to secure the Uruguayan’s signature.
Now, sports journalist Fabrizio Romano has taken to X to report that PSG are happy for Ugarte to leave this summer, with United having made contact with the French club about a number of players, including Ugarte, however no bid has been submitted for the 23-year-old as of yet.
