Manchester United’s pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite is still ongoing with their first bid of £35 million being rejected by the Toffees.
Despite Everton’s pressure to meet Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) by the 30th June, the club are holding off selling their key defender, only considering a deal on bids of over £80 million.
Whilst it’s expected that the Red Devils will be revising their offer for the 22-year-old, transfer business with other clubs could be set it have a positive impact on the deal for United.
i news are reporting that the Merseyside club are targeting Marseille midfielder Iliman Ndiaye this summer, with the Ligue 1 side wanting a £20 million transfer offer for the Senegal international. This valuation of the 24-year-old matches the price they bought him for from Sheffield United in order to break even on the star.
Initially, Everton were looking for the move to be a loan deal with an option to buy, but this demand from Marseille in a straight buy puts pressure on The Toffees to raise the funds to make the deal, putting more pressure on the Branthwaite deal.
Elsewhere having a similar effect, Newcastle have pulled out of their pursuit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the sale of the striker taking even more pressure off of the United-Branthwaite situation.
Ultimately Everton’s price tag for the English striker of £40 million was too much for Newcastle, which gives even more reason for Everton to consider a second bid from United for Branthwaite.
However, the report continued that both Manchester United and AC Milan are interested in Calvert-Lewin, which could once more throw the Brathwaite deal into disarray.
If Milan step up to the mark, this directly takes pressure off of Everton to sell their key defender to United for anything under £80 million, however if United do decide to pursue Calvert-Lewin, they could be sabotaging their own deal for their top defensive target.
