Manchester United is on the verge of acquiring Camron Mpofu, a promising talent from Reading, according to Manchester Evening News. The club is in the process of navigating the Premier League’s detailed procedures required to finalise the deal for the 15-year-old.
Mpofu, who has already made international appearances for both Scotland and England, is slated to join United’s under-16 squad. His debut on the international stage came during a match for Scotland Under 15s against Spain this past April. Notably, Mpofu was one of just three players selected from English club academies for the squad.

In related news, Manchester United’s academy has welcomed two new additions. Silva Mexes, son of the former Cardiff and West Brom forward Rob Earnshaw, has transferred from Ipswich, and 16-year-old Australian James Overy has also joined the team.
Post-Brexit regulations have imposed restrictions on English clubs, limiting their ability to sign international players under 18. This has led United to focus more on domestic talents following their last international acquisitions in 2020, which included Alejandro Garnacho, Willy Kambwala, Alvaro Fernandez, and Marc Jurado.
The club’s domestic recruitment strategy seems to be paying off, with notable signings such as Jack and Tyler Fletcher from Manchester City and Harry Amass from Watford. These players played crucial roles in the United Under 18s’ successful campaign last season, clinching the Premier League Northern Division, the National Final, and the Premier League Cup.
