Fighting game fans got their second big crossover surprise of the month after Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui were revealed as DLC characters for Street Fighter 6 followed by the explosive announcement of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics.
Capcom has now released a bunch of information regarding what’s included in the upcoming MvC collection that also features changes being made to the original arcade versions.
This goes for all six fighters plus The Punisher with X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
The most common change was to provide the option to reduce screen flashing across every game, which is nice for photosensitive players and those who just don’t like them in general.
What’s more interesting, however, is the ability to turn on hidden or what used to be unplayable characters and making them selectable to use (although presumably / hopefully not allowed online).
That includes Juggernaut and Magneto in X-Men, Doctor Doom, Thanos and Anita in Marvel SH and Cyber Akuma in MvSF.
The first Marvel vs. Capcom also says a number of its stages have been altered, but it doesn’t go into detail as to what exactly those are yet.
Of course this comes on top of all of the added new features like rollback netcode matchmaking plus lobbies, leaderboards, Training Modes that even include hitboxes, a music player, gallery and more offerings.
While the reveal garnered a lot of excitement (and reactions) from the FGC, it also opens the door to what the future may look like now for Marvel vs. Capcom when a few years ago even a collection like this seemed highly improbable.
The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection is currently slated to release in 2024 for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
