The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to claims that its passwords for the Results Viewing (IREV) portal for Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa states have been removed, saying such was not true and should be disregarded.
INEC in a release on its X Platform (formerly Twitter) was reacting to an alert by Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a former chairman of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, who raised doubt over the function of the Results Viewing (IReV) portal billed to be used for the Kogi, Imo and Bayelsa States governorship elections on Saturday.
SaharaReporters had reported on Friday that Odinkalu added that his sources were some of the workers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“#IMODecides2023 Update: I have just learnt from concerned workers that the Password to transmit results to #IREV issued yesterday to LGA Supervisors in Imo for use by APO1s 2mrw have bn withdrawn without reason. New passwords have not bn issued. Expect IREV “malfunction” 2mrw,” Odinkalu had said.
Reacting, INEC said, “The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been drawn to a story attributed to unknown “concerned workers” of the Commission that passwords for result upload have been withdrawn from LGA Supervisors for use by APO1s in Imo State. This is untrue. For the avoidance of doubt, Presiding Officers (POs), and not APO1s, are responsible for result upload to the IReV.
