In a coordinated effort to spread holiday cheer, the Abon Abang Foundation has partnered with “Humanities Without Borders”, an initiative led by the First Lady of Cross River State, Her Excellency Bishop Dr. Eyoanwan Itam Bassey Otu, to host a major humanitarian outreach program. The initiative successfully provided food and essential support to 100 widows across the Obubra and Etung Local Government Areas.
The delegation was led by Dr. Inyang Asibong, former Commissioner for Health and Special Adviser on NGOs, who represented the Governor’s wife. The mission aimed to ensure that the most vulnerable members of society could participate in the Christmas season with dignity and joy.
In Obubra, the team was officially received by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Leonard Ogwa, along with members of the local Executive Council.
In Etung, the delegation was welcomed by Mrs. Akinne Anom, wife of the Council Chairman, alongside Engr. George Ndifon Abang, PhD, the Executive Director of the Abon Abang Foundation.
During the event, Engr. George Ndifon Abang emphasized that the foundation’s goal was to create an atmosphere of “warmth and shared sweetness” for the beneficiaries. He reaffirmed a long-term commitment to addressing the plight of the vulnerable, noting that the Yuletide season is a critical time to demonstrate the Christian values of love and communal care.
The outreach has been hailed as a testament to the First Lady’s ongoing dedication to humanitarian service. For the beneficiaries, many of whom face significant economic and social isolation, the intervention provided more than just material relief, it offered a sense of belonging.
Mrs. Jessica Agbor, a widow from Etung, shared a moving testimonial, “It is not easy to be without a husband; often, it feels as though the community has left you behind. This gesture makes us feel integrated and remembered. We are deeply grateful to the Governor’s wife and the Abang Foundation.”
The program concluded with a renewed pledge from both organizations to continue their mission of upholding the dignity of vulnerable groups across the state.
