The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi, has expressed satisfaction with the high level of compliance recorded in Akpabuyo Local Government Area during the October edition of the statewide monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
The Commissioner, who monitored the exercise in the area alongside the Executive Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Council, Hon. Effiom Bassey, noted that the impressive turnout reflected the growing awareness among residents on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment. “Sanitation is now a statewide culture. Everyone is properly informed that the last Saturday of every month is dedicated to environmental sanitation,” Hon. Osogi stated.
The Commissioner commended the residents of Akpabuyo for their active participation and pledged to reward the Local Government Council on his next visit if the same level of enthusiasm is sustained in subsequent exercises.

In his remarks, Hon. Effiom Bassey, the Executive Chairman of Akpabuyo Local Government Council, reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the sanitation culture across communities in the area. He expressed delight at the high level of community participation, noting that council officials, youth groups, and residents worked collectively to ensure a successful exercise. “The involvement of our council officials and youths shows true commitment to environmental health. We will continue to mobilize our people for even greater compliance in future editions,” Hon. Bassey assured.
Some residents who spoke during the exercise commended the State Government for sustaining the monthly sanitation initiative.
Mrs. Joy Bassey, a resident, described the programme as a welcome effort towards ensuring a cleaner environment, while Mr. Paul Etim said it was the civic duty of every citizen to contribute to keeping their surroundings clean.
During the exercise, some defaulters were apprehended for violating the sanitation laws and handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution. Meanwhile, residents were visibly engaged in clearing drains, sweeping and clearing grasses around their surroundings.
The sanitation exercise is steadily reflecting the State Government’s continued effort to promote environmental cleanliness and public health across the Eighteen Local Government Areas of the state.
