Abia State Police Rescues Two Kidnapped Siblings

The Abia State government has confirmed the rescue of two of the three siblings abducted in Ikwuano Local Government Area. The children, from the Osinachi family, were kidnapped on May 10, 2024, in Ikwuano while returning home from school.

The media aide to the Mayor of Ikwuano, Dr. Okezie, confirmed the news to THE WHISTLER on Thursday. He reported that the Mayor, Hon. Osinachi Nwaka collaborated with security operatives to locate the children in Anambra State. One child was found in Ekwulobia, and the other in Nkpor, Onitsha.

Dr. Okezie stated that the two rescued siblings have been reunited with their family, while they are currently searching for the remaining child.

He disclosed that the two children were rescued following extensive investigations and strategic meetings with the Abia State Commissioner of Police (CP) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

The three Osinachi siblings – Gideon (8), Divine (6), and Israel (4) – were abducted, while returning home from school in Amaoba Ime Oboro. Their grandmother had entrusted them to a motorcycle rider (okada rider) who disappeared with the children.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State had previously issued strict directives for all security agencies to locate and apprehend the kidnapper.

Mayor Nwaka expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts and assured the public that the search for the remaining two children, Gideon and Israel, continues.

“We will leave no stone unturned in our quest to bring all our children back safely,” he declared.

The Mayor also urged the public to be cautious and verify information before sharing it on social media to prevent misinformation.

“The safety and well-being of our children remain the utmost priority of the Dr. Alex Otti-led government,” the Mayor stated.
