With the season now at a close, the summer transfer window is our exciting break before next season gets underway. Already a number of names are being linked to top clubs with Manchester United wanting to reinforce their defence and bring in some young talent.

One of their key transfer targets has come out in an interview with The Telegraph to confirm they have been in contact with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Nice centre-back, Jean-Clair Tobido has confirmed that following some successful seasons playing for the French outfit, he has now been in talks with the two premier League teams. The Frenchman went on to comment that he wants to play in the ‘best competitions in the world’.

When discussing the conversations held with United and Spurs, Tobido commented; “Honestly, I don’t want to talk about [my future] because of my respect for the fans here and the club also. But we had a little discussion, for sure.

He continued “I was 18 when I went to Barcelona. Now I am 24, I am married, I have two kids. My mind is different. I am a national team player. I have to think a little bit more. The life that I want to have means I’m much more thoughtful about what I do. My ambition is to play in the best competitions in the world and try to be the best version of me. Try to be the best defender, for sure, that I can be.”

The 24-year-old could be a perfect solution to their defensive struggles experienced in the 2023/24 Premier League season finishing eighth overall, also as a potential replacement to Raphael Varane who will be leaving the club this summer.

With Nice coming fifth in last year’s Ligue 1 season, they are set up to be playing in the Europa League next season. Manchester United have also gained entry to the competition through winning the FA Cup Final. However, INEOS ownership of both Manchester United and Nice may cause some complications with both team’s prospects at European football.
