It’s not been a vintage year for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
The England forward has been heavily criticised by many people for both his on-field performances as well as off-field incidents over the course of the season. This has inevitably led to rumours around his future. Reports have even suggested that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in bringing him to France to replace Kylian Mbappe.
With all this noise and negativity, one of the worst places to be is the world of social media. Known for being particularly brutal when it comes to negative sentiment, the criticism that players get online can go way above board on many occasions.
And it seems that Rashford feels he needs a bit of a break from it.
In a post on X, Marcus Rashford has announced to his followers that he’s stepping away from social media for a while.
The 26-year-old has said, “It’s time to come off Socials for a few weeks.
“I plan to rest and reset mentally after a challenging season individually and collectively.
“Thanks to the fans that stood by me through a difficult period.
“To the ones that didn’t just remember at United, we always stick together.”
This post comes on the back of United’s poor season in the Premier League coming eighth, their worst finish since 1990, and crashing out of the Champions League group stage.
Across his 43 appearances in all competitions this year, Rashford has managed eight goals for the Red Devils and contributed five assists. His performances weren’t enough unfortunately to convince Gareth Southgate to give the United forward a call-up to the England squad for this year’s European Championships in Germany. Therefore, Rashford will spend the summer at home instead.
Famously, after Rashford’s previous poor campaign in the 2021-22 season, the striker went away and put time into some intense training to get himself back to his best. It worked wonders as he was arguably United’s star player the following season and United fans will hope that he can repeat the trick again in this summer break. Taking time off social media will surely help.
