Capcom's million sellers info gives update to sales and rankings for Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom and more games

For the past handful of years, Capcom has pretty much been on a roll in terms of raking in record profits while also keeping their various playerbase groups fairly happy with their games (a decent chunk of the time at least).

The company recently updated their growing Platinum Titles collection pages to update how all of their big games are performing including Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom, and plenty more.

As of their latest financial quarter ending on March 31, 2024, Monster Hunter World became the first singular Capcom release to cross 20 million copies sold worldwide (although it’s at 25.30 million if you include Iceborne Master Edition) — and that’s still like an extra million more from last quarter.

There are no fighting games in the top 10 rankings anymore, however, after Street Fighter 5 and Street Fighter 2 (SNES) were bumped down by games like Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil Village around last year.

If you were to combine all of Street Fighter 4’s ~9 million and SF2’s ~15 million+, that would still likely push them up there (though that’d also require combining more Monster Hunter and Resident Evil releases too, and it’s not how Capcom themselves count their sales).

Like we already learned in the earnings report earlier this month, Street Fighter 6 managed to reach 3.3 million copies sold by the end of the quarter, which is an additional 400,000 more or so from the end of 2023.

This currently makes it Capcom’s 31st best-selling release ever in just around nine months (up from 37th the previous quarter) and 5th best-selling single fighting game already too.

At its current rate, SF6 will likely surpass the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Resident Evil Revelations 2, and the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis by its first birthday — and potentially even the original release of Street Fighter 4 still sitting at 3.6 million.

Street Fighter 5 also managed to push another 100,000 or so more copies over the quarter up to 7.5 million though its overall rank dropped to 12th thanks to Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak taking its previous spot.

The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Ultra Street Fighter 4 were able to do the same performance wise and hit 3.1 million last quarter and 2.1 million respectively.

That appears to be basically it in terms of meaningful changes with no other fighting games reaching a new landmark, which means Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite just barely ranks as the best singular release of the series at 2.2 million (but Marvel vs. Capcom 3 combined is still over 5.2 million).

While Ultimate Marvel 3’s numbers didn’t go up, it must be getting close to considering the game is ranked higher than Dead Rising for those still sitting at 1.8 million.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Capcom Fighting Collection has apparently yet to hit the 1 million mark at all, which doesn’t seem too good for those hoping for more Darkstalkers any time soon.

As for game series as a whole, Street Fighter went up from 53 to 54 million over the past quarter (and up 5 from this point last year) while MvC has remained at 11 million.

With Dragon’s Dogma 2 already coming out to be another notable success along with more support for Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter on the way, things are still looking to be on the up for the developer.
