Following the trending Kidnapping, killings and destruction of properties across the country, the Nigeria Red Cross Society has call on the international community and humanitarian organisations to come to the aid of helpless Nigerians, lamenting that innocent people are been kidnapped, killed on daily basis in unforseen circumstances by Boko Haram, bandits and unknown gunmen.
The call was made by the Anambra State Chairman of the Nigeria Red Cross Society, Professor Peter Emeka Katchy during this year’s World Red Cross Day Celebration, held at the state headquarters, Amowbia-Awka, on Saturday.
According to Katchy, as a humanitarian organization, Red Cross, like every other rational and humane organ, is concerned about the wailings all over the nation following wanton killings and kidnapping of people. The situation, he noted, has drastically reduced human value and has decimated humanity.
He said “the violence is a physical act or behaviour that is intended to hurt or kill through the process of physical force application. It is a strong negative emotional problem, always sudden and explosive with great energy exertions and strong movement, yet without achieving immediate positive result.
“I am appealing to concern global communities, corporate organizations and individuals to help join the campaign to end kidnapping, banditry, killings and other social vices in Nigeria.”
He noted that dialogue, treaty and equity are integral to achieving peace in this present time.
Prof. Katchy mentioned inequity, hatred, inequality, animosity, partiality, injustice jealousy, greediness, selfishness rooted and fueled by ignorance, as the most common causes of violence in the country.
“It is disheartening that people are meeting their untimely and sudden deaths in unforeseen circumstances in a great country like Nigeria”, the Red Cross boss frowned.
He passionately appealed to every God-fearing Nigerian to be involve in the campaign to end the ungodly menace.
The Theme for this year celebration is “Stop The Killings, Stop The Kidnappings, Humanity Is Unstoppable.”
