Street Fighter 6 server maintenance for major Akuma and balance update times revealed for tomorrow

The final countdown for Akuma has arrived with the year-long wait just about to come to an end in a matter of hours.

Capcom just confirmed Street Fighter 6’s impending server maintenance to prepare the game for Akuma’s arrival, the major balance patch and more.

According to their post, the scheduled maintenance time is set to begin tomorrow, May 21, at 8 p.m. PDT / 11 p.m. EDT and run through midnight PDT / 3 a.m. EDT.

This is still subject to change as always, so it may end up taking more or less time depending on how smoothly everything likely goes on the backend for Capcom.

During this time, all online functionality will remain unavailable until servers are back up and running including online matches, the Battle Hub, CFN, in-game shop, rewards and more.

The new update may become available for players to download while maintenance is still active, which would allow for access to the new balance update and potentially Akuma for Year 1 Character Pass owners.

We’ve also now hit a point where patch notes could finally drop anytime between now and when the maintenance ends, so a full list of the changes is coming very soon as well.

Capcom previously confirmed that all characters have received adjustments as well as universal changes like wakeup Drive Reversal and different frame data for Drive Parry.

On top of that, the developers are adding in new combo trials to account for these changes, which will be available when the update drops to see more of what’s possible.

At least one new feature is also coming tomorrow night with Character BGM Settings finally allowing players to customize their music choices during matches with playlists and per fighter options.

An in-game music shop will accompany it to offer a bunch of classic tracks from across the past 30 years of Street Fighter games, which can be purchased with Drive Tickets or Fighter Coins, though they haven’t revealed the pricing just yet.

So there will be more ways to get music than the Premium Fighting Pass very soon.

For DLC beyond just the new fighter, Outfit 3 for Akuma, A.K.I., Ed and Rashid are going to be included in the new update too.

We’ve not only seen all of the color options for the new costumes, but actual gameplay footage of them in action as well.

Fans won’t even need to wait very long to see Akuma and the new balance update at a major tournament either since Combo Breaker 2024 entrants voted overwhelmingly to make it all legal for the event this weekend, just days after it becomes available.

This is going to be Street Fighter 6’s largest update to date so far after its first year of life, so things are about to be looking very different as Season 2 approaches.

Stay tuned to EventHubs for more update information and the full patch notes for Street Fighter 6 as they become available plus plenty more coverage on the way about what all of this is going to mean for the game moving forward.
