New feature seemingly confirmed coming in Street Fighter 6's big balance and Akuma update

Street Fighter 6 is now just a few days away from receiving its largest update ever (up to this point), and it seems like it’s going to come packing quite a lot for players.

We obviously knew about Akuma, new combo trials, and the big balance patch, but now there’s pretty much confirmation of at least one more new feature being added to SF6 as well.

During jakenbake’s recent live stream with a beta build of the update where he also showed off the Outfit 3 DLC for Akuma, A.K.I., Ed and Rashid, there’s an extra option on the stage select screen that’s not present currently.

At the bottom of the screen, there’s “Character BGM Settings” available by pressing the Y / triangle button on the controller.

If you remember from last week, the official Japanese Street Fighter PR account reportedly leaked this same feature inadvertently before deleting the post.

So it seems like we finally have some confirmation that the accidental leak was indeed real.

As far as we can tell, however, Jake nor anyone else with the beta build has shown off how the expanded music feature works, but we’ll probably be finding out very soon.

Given what we saw in the leaked images, it looks like players will be able to create music playlists for each member of the roster they battle against, and presumably that’ll work in both offline and online modes.

Although SF6 has offered different tracks to unlock, the game only lets players listen to them in limited ways like walking around the Battle Hub, World Tour or sitting in Training Mode.

Having a custom jukebox is something that fans have been requesting since launch (considering many users are fairly underwhelmed by SF6’s default music selection anyway), so they’re hopefully getting their wish after almost a year.

There wasn’t much incentive to pick up most of the previous tracks made available in the premium Fighting Passes in the game, so hopefully that also means Capcom will offer more ways to get music to actually use now.

This Character BGM Settings option along with the balance update, Akuma, Outfit 3 and more are scheduled to drop on May 22.

Stay tuned to EventHubs for more coverage as to what the big update entails for SF6 as well as the full patch notes as soon as they become available.
