May 19, 2024 QUEENS, New York – Just before 5am, An NYPD highway patrol vehicle struck and gravely injured a male pedestrian on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens, cops said.
According to police officials, a 23-year-old man was attempting to cross the Van Wyck Expressway on foot near Liberty Avenue early Sunday morning when struck.
One officer in a patrol cruiser was responding to a call with lights and sirens on when the police vehicle struck the man, authorities said.
The 23-year-old male was rushed to Jamaica hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
NYPD Highway units were on scene conducting a collision investigation for several hours.
