Comr Eteng Edet Eteng (R) with the Obol of Ugep (L) at the Obol’s Palace |
Nyok|9 January 2019
With the imminence of the 2019 general elections in Cross River State and Nigeria at large, I have decided to take a keen interest in the development at all levels —state, geopolitical zone and nation. Beginning with the state, I narrowed my personal observatory to a State Constituency in Cross River particularly in respect of the elections into the State House of Assembly, that is, the 9th Cross River State House of Assembly, CRSHA. My periscope fine-tuned itself to —Yakurr I State Constituency, where I saw a myriad of candidates vying to represent the good people of the Constituency.
Comr Eteng Edet Eteng, an enterprising young man from Aneja in Ijom ward caught my fancy. I couldn’t help but conduct some enquiries about him, see what I learnt about Comr Eteng who’s vying under the auspices of the Young Democratic Party, YDP.
Why Eteng inspired my admiration is a talk for another publication, but for today, join me in meeting Comr Eteng:
*BRIEF PROFILE OF ETENG ETENG EDET
‘Passionate about human capacity development with a resolve to empower youth with life skills, Eteng, Eteng Edet was born on 9th March, 1980. He believes that opportunities if available to the youth, more than half of the population will utilise the opportunity for the betterment of the society.
‘Born to the family of late Francis Eteng Arikpo, Eteng is an indigene of Aneja in Ijom ward of Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State. He is the first son and second child in a family of five and is married with a child.
‘He attended Bishop King Memorial Primary School and Government Science School, Mayne Avenue, Calabar. He proceeded to Obafemi Awolowo University, where he obtained a Diploma in Computer Repairs and Maintenance; and further went to University of Calabar and obtained a B.EDT, Educational Technology. He embellished his educational qualifications with a certificate in Computer Studies and Application from Pacific Computer and Management College, Calabar.
‘A proponent of hard work and diligence, Eteng has worked as a project Supervisor for Sheriff and Gold Limited, Calabar and also, Malibu Engineering Company Calabar.
‘His interest in politics was spurred from his believe that there is a peculiarity in every youth that if identified, polished and harnessed can make a difference in others and the society at large.’
Interesting, right? Yeah, Eteng is an interesting young dude. Subsequently, I will tell you what I further learnt about his campaign manifesto —the Eteng Eteng Covenant with Yakurr I State Constituency. Not even the incumbent PDP member representing the constituency at the 8th Cross River State House of Assembly has contemplated in its barest minimum what Comr Eteng has already in his ‘covenant’.
