Preachers are being cheaply murdered; communities are being wiped out to be able to feed cows; human authorities are taciturn; God, Jehovah, who wears the garment of fire, please speak with the spit of FIRE now. Defend the oppressed now.
Bishop Tunde Adeleye
Anglican Communion
Cross River State
July 2016
The Reverend gentleman made this remark on his social media page recently obviously in reaction to the gruesome murder of Eunice Omolaye, the wife of the Abuja-based Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG)'s pastor who was recently murdered while she preached early in the morning.
Adeleye particularly notes that 'human authorities are taciturn' implying 'tending to be quiet: not speaking frequently'. This observation could be referring to the glaring silence of the federal government to news and incidents of gruesome murder of believers of different faith and the sacking of whole communities and worship centres by religious fanatics. Besides, security agencies never apprehend any culprits and therefore justice is not meted.
Accordingly, the Bishop finally submits, 'God, Jehovah, who wears the garment of fire, please speak with the spit of FIRE now. Defend the oppressed now'. Since civil governments have failed to address incidents of insecurity, he resorts to God.
