Information reaching our news desk has it that the Federal Government has finally signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for the construction of the long awaited Lagos-Calabar rail project.
Negroidhaven garnered that the Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amechi, made the contract binding when he signed the document on Friday, in Abuja, on behalf of the federal Government of Nigeria.
This MoU would no doubt authenticate the bilateral relation between the duo of Nigeria and China.
However, the first part of the project would span from Calabar to Port Harcourt and as alleged by the minister of transport, it will be completed in two years.
The second phase of the rail project will be from Lagos to Ibadan and it will also be completed in two years.
In the words of Mr Rotimi Amaechi:
“.. the contract was awarded by the Goodluck Jonathan during his administration for $11.974 billion, however the present administration did review the contract and the price was reduced to $11.174 billion”
Mr Amaechi, assured Nigerians that the Federal Government will fulfill its own side of the agreement and make available the funds required and that right early.
However, in response to the foregoing, the president of CCECC, Mr. Cao Baogang argued that the rail project will no doubt impact positively in the agricultural life of the country.
