The Commissioner for Health, Cross River State Dr (Mrs) Inyang Asibong, who was the chief host during the 2nd Induction and Oath Taking Ceremony held on Friday 1 July, for 115 graduands of 2013, 2014 and 2015 sessions held at the school of Midwifery ground saluted the efforts of the Principal, staff and students of the school for keeping the ship of the nursing profession afloat against all odds: adding that it was signal of hope and extended to them her hearty felicitations and that of entire staff of the state ministry of Health.
Dr Asibong congratulated the inductees for attaining great feat in spite of challenges they passed through during training, observing that it is a thing of joy that the knowledge impacted in them turned out to produce great achievements. She urged fresh nurses from the school of Nursing Calabar to do all in their power to uphold the ethics of the nursing profession as well as protect the image of their school.
According to her, “It is therefore important to practice your profession with total display of dedication, hard work, honesty, sincerity and diligence which are some qualities of a good Nurse”.
In his speech while declaring the event open, the Chairman of the occasion, Com Thomas Ulakom Igbang commended the Principal and staff of the school of Nursing Calabar for consistently graduating their students:noting that Nurses constitute the largest Workforce in the health care delivery industry.
The Director of Nursing Services, CRS Barr (Mrs) Christy Essien who was represented by Mrs Rita Atuaka, Principal school of Midwifery Ogoja in her goodwill message congratulated the graduands for having successfully gone through their training and expressed optimism that they are prepared for the challenges ahead.
The 115 graduands were admitted as Nurses by the state Chairman of National Association of Nigeria Nurses And Midwives (NANNM) CRS, Com Ojong Ogar who was represented by the Vice chairman, Com Josephine Bassey.
Speaking, the special guest of honor and Chairman, Cross River State House of Assembly committee on Health, Dr. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey enjoined the new nurses to be ready to discharge their duties in the nation's and state's Health care delivery system.
Dr Bassey promised his commitment to ensure the review and amendment of the health sector law as it concerns the smooth running of the health training institutions among other issues.
The Principal, School of Nursing, Calabar, Evang. (Mrs) Effioanwan Amanso Orji while commending the graduands for their success admonished them saying “You owe the profession allegiance and the obligation to maintain standards and ethics of best practice'.
The event featured induction lecture delivered by Lady (Mrs) Margaret Armon, Lecturer, Department of Nursing Science, University of Calabar and goodwill messages from Royal Father of the day, Muri Munene of Efut, Muri (Prof) Itam Hogan Itam, Principal school of Psychiatric/mental health Nursing, Mr Lazarus Ekpenyong, Principal school of Itigidi, Barr Aji Eko among other personalities.
