“It's been a long while since we last felt government presence in Okorshie, thank you DG” – Clan Head

It has been 6 months of vibrancy, innovations, panache, revitalization, digitalisation, revamping and endless action in the primary health care system of Cross River State.

The appointment of Dr Betta Edu 6 months ago by the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, as Special Adviser on Community and Primary Health and latter as Director General Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency came as a big suprise to many. Some thought she was too young (as reflected in an online article “Ayade Appoints Youngest Special Adviser in Nigeria”), others said she was inexperienced and will not deliver on the job. Several other stories made the rounds but one thing was certian the Governor had made his choice and that was final. Sen. Ayade was bent on bringing young people with passion and drive who will aid him deliver on his campaign promises to Cross Riverians.

6 months down the line, am sure more than 80% of Cross Riverians can attest to the fact that the Governor got this so right. She has brought verve, finesse, panache, passion, vitality, elegance, warmth, fear of God, compassion, and an unprecedented energertic drive to the health sector in CRS. Some say she is the most accessible government appointee, some call her the flagship of Ayade's government while others say she is just so simple and humble and goes about her job like she was made just for that purpose.

In a chat with press men, she said “I thank God almighty for giving me this opportunity to serve, Jesus is the only reason why I make progress everyday. I thank Sen. Prof Ayade and his beautiful wife Dr. Linda Ayade immensely, they are the air under my wings.

Am not perfect, I might not get it right all the time…but you see, my intentions are pure, my purpose is sincere, I want to serve, I want to give all I can to see that the health system in CRS truly works.

I must commend my super family and my precious lover Mr Edu who has stood with me through these 6 months.

Am glad that this week which marks my 6months in office can be spent in a very remote village of OKORSHIE, the last village in Obudu before you get to the mountains or Boki LGA. It was touching for me to hear their problems and bring smiles and hope back to them. This week we have commissioned one PHC at Bedia, reached out to very poor and down trodden people of Wanihem, Wanikade, Wanakom with health information, food items and insecticide treated Nets”.

Honestly, I have a super team in the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency, they welcomed me with open arms and we are doing great things together. My sister and friend, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr Asibong has been very supportive and I must commend her strong leadership qualities.”

We just started…its not time to sing victory songs yet…a lot of grounds are yet to be covered; lets stay focused and work. With God on our side Sen. Ben Ayade and his wife Dr. Linda Ayade will bring the required change to the health sector”.

From us in the media, we are grateful that we got someone to keep us really engaged. Her activities are indeed impactful and endless. We wish the beautiful queen of primary health more grease as she continues to reach out to more communities and save lives in Cross River State. To our Governor,  well done! You choose well. BETTA IS BETTER!
