'Agriculture pays more…enough of the white cola jobs. Am off'.
—Jolly Bana
May 2016.
Comr. Jolly Bana is a Boki born Cross Riverian who was a former President of National Association of Cross River State Students (NACRISS) University of Calabar Chapter around 2013/2014 academic session.
The above statement is credited to him as it appears on his social media account. The former student activist may have gotten frustrated with 'White Collar Job' as it's perceived not to be paying when compared to agriculture. So, he says, 'Am off' white collar jobs owing to the discovery that, 'Agriculture pays more…'.
If Comr. Bana is sincere, then he has taken a step in the right direction especially when one considers that the main stay of Nigeria's economy, crude oil, is showing signs of unreliability in the face of dwindling prices for black gold and other related matters. We are calling on other youths to thread behind Comr. Bana.
Entrepreneurship in agribusiness will revamp our ailing economy development consultants would readily agree. I therefore urge the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade and President Muhammadu Buhari to look towards funding agriculture by evolving policies that creates enabling environment for agribusiness to thrive.
Our youths can make a difference.
