The Abakpa bridge is one of the oldest bridges in northern Cross River State which is in a very sorry state due to lack of maintenance.

This bridge is the only route that leads from Abakpa to Ogoja township and it has become a death trap for many road users who ply through it mostly at night.

It can be recalled that in the past many motor cyclists popularly called Okada have fallen into the Abakpa river as a result of the poor state of the bridge whose iron rays have fallen off and pot holes found on the bridge.

For the safety of our people in Ogoja and its environs I call on relevant government Authority to pay urgent attention to this very rusty bridge before our people get trapped into it, for we all know this is a wet season and the river banks will be full and flooding to the road.

In this regard I call on the State government, Ogoja Local government, the Ministry of Works and the Rural Urban Development Agency(RUDA) to speedily pay attention to the Abakpa bridge for the safety of the lives and property of our people.
