The Federal Ministry of Power, Works & Housing under the present leadership of the former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fasola, has fingered federal roads in Cross River State for reconstruction and maintenance.

This information is contained in a memo dated 7th January 2016 with reference number DDHMS/CR/35/CFMA/T/Vol.III/785 emanating from the Directorate of Highways(Planning & Development) as endorsed by Engr. Bala Danshehu in response to a 9th December 2015 letter addressed to the Office of the Vice- President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by the Executive Director, Mr. Iso Bassey, of Lead Inspire Transform, a nongovernmental organisation.

The ministry has especially noted Calabar-Itu federal highway has been earmarked for reconstruction this year's (2016) budget, while the Calabar-Ogoja federal highway is currently being reconstructed and maintained.

This media outfit is particularly impressed by the sense of responsibility demonstrated by Mr. Iso Bassey of Lead Inspire Transform in addressing a letter to the Presidency with regards to the said road which has been totally dilapidated.

It also wishes to commend the Vice-president for responding immediately to  Mr. Bassey's letter by forwarding the said letter to the Ministry of Power, Works & Housing.

Cross Riverians and Nigerians at large look forward to seeing the eventual construction of Calabar-Itu federal highway as it constitute an economic lifeline to inhabitants of the state.
