It’s a bit wild to think that Street Fighter 6 is rapidly approaching their first anniversary since launch though there’s still one more addition to make before the birthday celebrations.
With the floodgates now starting to open for information and footage about Akuma, the final version of SF6’s character select screen has now been revealed to show how it’ll look at the end of Season 1.
Thanks to Rooflemonger’s preview footage, we can now see the complete character select screen as well as the demon’s animations when picked to fight.
Unsurprisingly, Akuma is being placed on the bottom right of the roster options next to Ed and the other previous DLC characters with Jamie and Luke still standing out at the top by themselves.
There’s one interesting detail we noticed when taking a closer look at the demon’s in-game icon that may be unique among the cast so far.
Almost everyone else on the soon-to-be 22-character roster is facing left with the exception of Jamie, Kimberly and Juri, who are still looking to the left.
Akuma, however, is facing directly to the right almost as if in defiance of the opposition. The small image and his glowing eye don’t exactly make it clear though which way he’s actually glancing towards.
It’s not a huge thing, but it is a fun little detail.

When selected, Akuma goes from a calm sitting position to standing straight up showing off his new beefy physique while facing away from the opponent.
Once confirmed, he turns his head to menacingly look at them followed by some cool visual effects as Akuma teleports in for the pre-fight intro.
We’re intrigued to see if Capcom will make any changes to the character select screen itself once the game officially kicks off Season 2 with new characters. Will they keep adding them below Rashid, A.K.I., Ed and Akuma, or will they rearrange the cast to make them more uniform?
These previews have also shown us all of Akuma’s colors on his first two costumes plus some new information about balance changes as well as of course a lot of gameplay footage of the demon in action.
You can see much more of Akuma below before his official release on May 22 to cap off Street Fighter 6’s first year of content.
