Turkish giants seeking shock move for Manchester United defender

According to Turkish publication Fanatik, Turkish giants Galatasaray are plotting a shock move for Manchester United defender Raphael Varane.

The French World Cup winner will be out of contract in June and there is no official communication on contract negotiations ongoing.

The major concern with Rapha Varane is his massive wages.

INEOS are intent on reducing the overall wage bill at the club which puts top earners like Varane on the chopping block – it is worth noting that United have been guilty of overpaying players one too many times.

The  Red Devils paid £41m to Real Madrid for the signing of Varane back in 2021.

He has made 93 appearances for the club over the past 3 years albeit he hasn’t quite reached the heights that earned him the moniker Mr Champions League.

Some of his struggles can be accounted to the numerous injuries and niggles he has grossly struggled with and his time at United could be coming to an end.

Perhaps age is catching up with him although he is still only 31.

In the event that United decide not to trigger contract negotiations on lower wages, he will definitely be on Galatasaray’s radar.

The centre back could be the first card to fall in a potentially massive defensive reshuffle awaiting on the other side under INEOS.

Varane did last year clarify that he would only leave Manchester United for 2 clubs: Rc Lens and Real Madrid.

As goal.com cited, the Frenchman is only willing to retire at clubs he has played for which means if United were to offer him a new contract on lower wages as INEOS see fit, he is very likely to sign on the dotted line.
