In an operation conducted on Wednesday, soldiers from the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army successfully ambushed and neutralized three bandits in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the incident in a statement titled "Troops Clear Ambush in Mangu, Annihilate 3 Bandits, Recover Weapons."
Responding to a distress call in the area, the troops courageously fought through an ambush laid by the bandits, resulting in the capture of weapons and firefighting equipment.
According to the statement, "Troops of the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army deployed to quell the crisis in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State successfully neutralized three bandits on Wednesday, July 12, 2023.
"The troops eliminated the criminals after bravely overcoming an ambush set up by the bandits while responding to a distress call in the general Mangu area.
"After successfully clearing the ambush, the troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, 14 rounds of 7.62 mm special rounds, one motorcycle, and a Constabulary Police identity card.
"Currently, the troops are pursuing the bandits who managed to escape with gunshot wounds during the firefight."
It is worth noting that just last week on Thursday, gunmen had killed five individuals in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This attack occurred merely two days after some gunmen raided the Kwahas and Milet communities within the same council area, resulting in the deaths of two people, including a female community leader.
