CALABAR – The Governor Of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has ordered the immediate Suspension of scrap metal activities in Cross River State.
The suspension was contained in a press release issued on Monday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary Edem Darlington titled "Suspension Of All Scrap Metal Activities In The State".
It noted that due to the high rate of incessant theft, and vandalism of public and private Infrastructure, it had become necessary to further put an end to the menace.
The statement also enjoined licensed dealers of scrap metals to attend a meeting with the state government, on Thursday for further briefings.
The statement reads "Following reports of incessant theft and vandalization of critical public and private Infrastructure an in order to effectively address this menace, The Governor Of Cross River State, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has approved the immediate suspension of all activities of scrap metals in the state until further notice.
"All dealers on scrap metals are, by this notice, advised to adhere strictly to these directives as security agents have been mandated to deal decisively with anyone found flaunting this directive.
"Furthermore, all licensed scrap metal dealers are hereby advised to report to the office of the Chief of staff to the governor on Thursday 27 july, 2023 at 2pm for necessary briefings." The statement reads.
