Otu strikes first rod 5 months into office, suspends DG SEMA

Otu strikes first rod 5 months into office, suspends DG SEMA
It’s exactly 5 months since Prince Otu’s administration was sworn in with a majority of his aides appointed two months after.
There have been a lot of complaints and misdoings about his aides. But it seems these complaints have either not gotten to the governor or he took those complaints lightly.
Surprisingly, Governor Otu publicly raised the sledgehammer on the Director General, of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Chief (Mrs.) Angela Ogeyi Odey.
According to a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the governor, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbeche, “The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Director General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Chief (Mrs.) Angela Ogeyi Odey.”
The statement also noted that the DG will hand over to the most senior director in the Agency before the close of work today, Monday, October 30, 2023, and during the period of her suspension, she is not to be engaged, covertly, or overtly, in the administration of the SEMA except otherwise directed by the governor.

Although the statement didn’t give reasons for her suspension, many believe that it is unconnected with her actions in the ongoing distribution of palliative materials to Cross Riverians to caution the effect of the removal of petroleum subsidy.
The suspended DG had recently appointed about 20 aides into her office. An act which many believe she has no power to do while others saw the appointment as loopsided with no state character.
