The Cross River State Commissioner for Youth and Skills Acquisition, Hon. Signor Omang Idiege has urged youths in the country, irrespective of academic qualifications,to earnestly acquire, sustain, internalise and domesticate skills to youth resident in their respective communities for the growth and development of the State and the Nation at large.
Signor Idiege gave the charge while speaking at the Passing out ceremony of the 2019 Batch A Corps Members that served in the State held at the U. J. Esuene Stadium,Calabar,adding that jobs opportunities are created when Skills Acquisition is given priority and praticalised amidst challenges.
The Youth Development and Skills Acquisition Commissioner averred that the “acquisition of skills will reduce the threat of insecurity, free the youths and their families from the horrors of lack, poverty, hunger, deprivation and ignorance.”
He advised Cross River youths and Corps Members in particular to embrace various skills to harness their hidden potentials for self-reliance and job creation to become entrepreneurs with solutions to economic needs and lauded Governor Ben Ayade for being the first in the country to create a separate Ministry in charge of Youth matters which he emphasized will impact positively on the econony of the State.
Speaking earlier, the Cross River State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Nakamba revealed that the passing out parade hitherto organised in low key has been resuscitated, noting that the resuscitation by the Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim is an indication of the determination to bring the NYSC Scheme to its full tradition of service and dedication to the development of the Nation.
Alhaji Nakamba advised the passing out Corps Members to ensure they apply the various skills acquisition knowledge attained during the period of their National Service, adding that it will make them self employed and save them the embarrassment of begging or putting pressure on family and friends.
He noted further that white collar jobs are not easily available and acquired skills when put to proper use should create wealth.
The passing out parade which was attended by several Service Commanders featured a world class parade by the passing out Corps Members and the presentation of certificates to the best performing Corps members who were duly recognised and honoured by the State Governor Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade.
From the various Community Development Services (CDS) carried out by the passing out Corps Members of the 2019 Batch A, five Corps Members were adjudged the best and the overall best award went to Dr. Chioma Innocent Lynda and the others include: Muyideen Muftau Ayinla Haruna Stephen Ogaji, Okpomo Stanley and Olaniyan Esther.
