The Cross River State Government has assured communities yet to benefit from it’s micro and social development projects in the state to exercise patience as the was designed to cover a large number of communities.
Commissioner for International Development Cooperation, Dr Inyang Asibong, gave the assurances when she led the team of the State Community and Social Development Agency (CRS-CSDA) to inspect projects In Obudu Local Government Area.
Asibong said the projects aims at increasing access of the rural dwellers, particularly the vulnerable within these communities, to improve sustainable social infrastructural services, considering that over 70% of Cross River residents live in rural settlements.
According to the Commissioner, the distinction of the successes recorded so far belongs to Governor Ben Ayade whose interest is to touch lives of rural dwellers. She however urged the benefitting communities to take ownership and ensure sustainability the projects.
“His Excellency, Sen. (Prof.) Ben Ayade, always has the interest of his people at heart and his administration has not relented in its aim to take governance closer to the grassroot. It is on the backdrop of this that I am here on behalf of His Excellency to access the level of work done by the agency and audit the quality materials being utilized,” Asibong explained.
The projects include work flow and construction of drainage and culvert linking Kakum community at Ipone ward benefitting four communities, a model Primary Health Care centre at Bebuawhan Community and two solar powered boreholes in Bebuatsan community, all in Obudu Local Government Council of Cross River State.
The CSDA Board Chairman, Mr Toni Ikpeme whilst lauding the community leaders for providing adequate security that encouraged speed of work at different project sites, assured them of Government’s continued support.
Acting General Manager, Mr Fidel Undie while providing technical details of the projects, explained that despite the many bottlenecks, work done is at 70% completion and will soon be ready for commissioning. Undie assured the Commissioner on a timely completion and handing over of the project with global best specifications .
Also the DG, CRSPHCDA, Dr Janet Ekpeyong expressed her satisfaction at the level of work currently ongoing at the Model Primary Health Care centre, Bebuawhan.
“I’m happy with the level of work currently ongoing, this will replace the dilapidated mud building that is currently in use. It would also go on to improve the health and wellbeing of Obudu people in general”, she said.
The Micro projects are funded through the Cross River State Community and Social Development Agency, a Cross River State project assisted by the World Bank.
