December 23 every year marks the birthdate anniversary of an exceedingly lovable woman, an epitome of humility and compassion; Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade, the beautiful wife of the Governor of Cross River State.
This year, the day presented again an opportunity to, not only celebrate her, but also celebrate with her, on the milestones of, adding another year to her life, God’s faithfulness and unquantifiable blessings in her life.
True to her humane nature, the amiable wife of the Governor chose instead to celebrate the anniversary of her birth with the less privileged, the aged and people who need her love and kindness the most.
Dr. Mrs. Ayade as was becoming a custom, paid a visit to the Old People’s Home located in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State in Nigeria. The Old People’s Home is run by the Roman Catholic Church.
The authentic personality of the urbane and educated yet self-effacing, friendly and contented wife of the Governor glowed as she partied with the inmates of the Old People’s home.
Her value for spirituality and humanity resurfaced as she shared gifts and food items worth hundreds of thousands with the inmates and redeemed the promise of a car made to the home during an earlier visit – all these without cameras present!
Dr. Linda Ayade has held on to a virtue long abandoned by today’s culture: Humanity. She gives to the voiceless who truly need assistance rather than to those with a platform to render humdrum encomiuns on social media.
There are those who have lauded her with the titles of Mother Teresa of our time, Princess Diana of Nigeria, etc. but Dr. Ayade stands out as one who believes that humanity is perhaps the highest form of religion, for even the Holy book condemns those who aspire to spirituality but despise fellow man who might be in need of provisions that they are capable of providing.
It was Dalai Lama who said, “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” These make the true essence of living. This is what inspires Dr. Linda Ayade as a person.
Inspired by the humane nature of Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade, we encourage other women in position of authority and indeed all people with material resources at their disposal to make the touching of lives of those who need it the most their priority.
This is the definition of humanity.
