Waste Disposal: CRSG Enforces Compliance, Apprehend Defaulters

In its determination to return the state to its clean and green status, the Government of Cross River State has set in motion temporary modalities to apprehend those going against government directives on proper waste disposal.

The government had last month, in a press release,  directed citizens in the state on new waste disposal policy.

However, some residents have continued to disregard the directive and instructions of the governor.

To ensure full compliance, a tactical team in charge of enforcement and compliance under the supervision of Barr Ekpenyong Akiba, an aide to the governor, began clampdown on defaulters within the Calabar Metropolis.

Among those arrested, Wednesday was a couple, notorious for indiscriminate dumping of refuse on the pavement along Eta Agbor road. Both confessed in admission of their actions and promised never to default again.

Addressing news men, Barr Akiba noted that the situation deteriorated to a point where residents had to begin disposing refuse in the middle of the road.

“It is sad that after all the warnings and publicity, the people have not heeded it but rather in some locations, they have decided to dump their refuse in the middle of the road, in  total disregard to public order”.

He. assured that the team will be relentless until the desired result is attained.

“We must help people to behave in an orderly manner as they ought to be and not constitute public nuisance to another”, he added.
